NEW ALBUM TO BE RELEASED IN 2021

Canadian Ukrainian singer Alexis Kochan has spent decades interpreting music from the deepest layers of ancient Ukraine through each of the various incarnations of her work; from her first solo record Czarivna through the multi-collaborative recordings of her Paris To Kyiv project. Her newest recording with jazz pianist Marilyn Lerner is another path in her story. Зажурилася гора  or Worried Hill  is in stark contrast to anything that has come before, featuring spoken and sung poetry against innovative piano work. It is spare, modern and echoes the loss of loved ones that both artists experienced during the creation of this album. At times voice and piano walk with one another. In other moments there is almost a landscape between them. This is a dialogue that reflects the Ukrainian and Jewish perspectives, their differences and commonalities. Two travellers who meet on occasion but who have lived alongside each other for millennia…
